Georgia Ensemble Theatre

Hey #UPFRONT listeners! I have tickets for the Georgia Ensemble Theatre production of "Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years," which is currently running now through March 5 and starring Donna Biscoe and Brenda Porter. It is also directed by Andrea Frye.

Comedic actor Jordan Peele (Key & Peele) is taking his love for comedy and scary movies and merging the two genres together for an unapologetic look at race relations in the new film, “Get Out.” The horror is his first project as writer and director and follows an African-American photographer who goes to meet the family of his Caucasian girlfriend only to find out that they are not really who they appear to be.

The Local Take: Real Dads Read

Feb 25, 2017

This week on The Local Take we speak with Kenneth Braswell from Fathers Incorporated about their new initiative REAL DADS READ. Research shows that when fathers participate in their children's education, helping with homework, their grades and test scores increase. Fathers play a critical role in the development of  literacy when they model the importance of reading and sharing stories.

Braswell points out that we have mp3 children living with 8-Track parents and that technology can be challenging.

Join us Saturday morning at 7:30am on WCLK for The CheckUp with Dr. Courtney Shelton MD.  Dr. Shelton will be joined by Cardiologist Dr. F Michael Toca for a compelling discussion about how you can take care of your heart for a longer, healthier life. Heart disease is the number one killer of men and women in America. How can you improve your odds of avoiding it? Fitness expert Genise shelton will provide useful fitness tips for heart health, too.

Dr. Shelton is a Board Certified Internist and Primary Care Physician and the Director of the Shelton Hospitalist Group, LLC.

Last week on Jazz Tones on WCLK(Sundays 3pm-7pm) I was joined by Brent Fischer.  He is a Grammy-winning producer and BMI composer and arranger. He has credits on records with over 30 million copies sold for pop, R&B and Jazz royalty including Dianne Reeves, Raphael Saadiq, Al Jarreau, Prince and D'Angelo. PNC Bank and Jazz 91.9 WCLK celebrate Atlanta's African American Business Leaders--Henry “Hank” James Thomas was born on August 29, 1941 in Jacksonville, Florida. He spent most of his childhood in St. Augustine. As a student at Howard University, Hank Thomas joined the first Freedom Rider group on May 4, 1961. On Mothers Day, when the  bus Thomas was riding on reached Anniston, Alabama, it was set on fire by the Ku Klux Klan. Ten days later Thomas rode from Montgomery to Jackson, Mississippi. There he was incarcerated at the notorious, Parchman State Prison Farm.
