The Local Take Talks Healthy Churches 2020

I spoke with Dr. Pernessa Seele, founder and CEO of The Balm In Gilead, Inc. a non-profit organization that has provided technical support to faith institutions in the USA and Africa. Dr. Seele is a graduate of Clark Atlanta University and she launched Healthy Churches 2020 an initiative of her non-profit to engage with the faith community to promote healthy outcomes. 

The 4th annual Healthy Churches 2020 Conference will take place November 14th - 17th in Hilton Head, SC. 

On the October 28 edition of The Local Take, I speak with Demetria Wideman about concessions at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.   Ms. Wideman shares with us their upcoming "Taste" event taking place on Wednesday, November 1 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  She shares with us how dining in the airports is no longer limited to hot dogs.  Many Hartsfield-Jackson restaurants are destination locations for travelers from all over the world.

She is named the First Lady of Neo-Soul, but did you know she attended Grambling State University, a Historically Black College and University/HBCU? Join Jazz 91.9 WCLK as we probe the proud unheralded history of HBCUs in a special screening of Stanley Nelson's new documentary Tell them We Are Rising on the historic HBCU campus of Clark Atlanta University.  The event will take place on November 15, 7:00 p.m.

Clark Atlanta University Art Museum

CAU Now Lifting Every Voice on WCLK features the Clark Atlanta University Art Museum. This collection is a hidden gem of Atlanta's arts and culture scene, and is located in Trevor Arnett Hall on CAU's campus. We spoke with Museum Director Dr. Maurita Poole. In addition to discussing current exhibits at the museum she discusses it's history, which dates to 1942 and the creation of the Atlanta University Exhibition of Paintings, Prints and Sculpture by Negro Artists of America.

The Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts at Clark Atlanta University presents Freelance Casting Director with Tyler Perry Studios Rhavynn Drummer on Thursday, November 2 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Drummer will teach attendees auditioning techniques for TV, Film and Theatre.  Information is available at WCLK.com  

Join the Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts at Clark Atlanta University for a Master Class with Kenny Leon on Monday, October 30 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Davage Auditorium located on the campus of CAU.
