Whitaker, a two-time SIAC women's cross country champion and four-time SIAC All-Academic and scholar-athlete, was also named this year's recipient of the 2013 Peach of an Athlete Top Female Athlete Award for her commitment to community, athletic and academic excellence.

The Clark Atlanta University Community today mourns the death of Mrs. Evelyn G. Lowery (CC, '46), who died early this morning, Sept. 26. surrounded by family in her home. Mrs. Lowery suffered a stroke Sept. 18; however, doctors released her from the hospital Wednesday to be with family.

Hillgrove High School students participated in Jazz in the Classroom yesterday featuring jazz vocalist Janis Siegel. The two-hour program chronicles Jazz history and its significance to pop, R&B and hip-hop music. The assembly was presented on behalf of Cobb Energy Centre’s Foundation ArtsBridge program and Atlanta’s jazz station, Jazz 91.9 WCLK.
Scotty Barnhart, Atlanta native, author and Professor of Jazz Trumpet at Florida State University, is also the the Director of the Count Basie Jazz Orchestra, which performs Wednesday evening as part of the Jazz Roots Series at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
