The state of Georgia dedicated a special highway this week to multi Grammy award-winning vocalist, author, actress and restaurateur, Gladys Knight. The legendary Motown singer, who is affectionately known as the “Empress of Soul,” was in attendance along with her famous brother, Merald “Bubba” Knight, and a host of family members and close friends. The event took place at the Senate Chambers of the State Capitol.

The 18th Annual Duke Pearson Summer Jazz Camp takes place M0nday-Friday June 8-12 at the Clark Atlanta University Park Street Music and Arts Complex. This camp, started by CAU Professor Dr. James Hardy Patterson in honor of his friend and colleague Duke Pearson, offers elementary through high school students a variety of approaches to performing jazz and other African American expressions.

Tenor Saxophonist Kamasi Washington's new release Epic is just that, a three-cd set of music that ranges from Debussy to Cherokee and back again, featuring his band Next Step, an orchestra, and a choir. You can hear this great new release throughout the day on WCLK, specifically his re-interpretation of the jazz standard Cherokee, featuring vocals from Patrice Quinn.
