The Atlanta Black Theatre Festival and Children's Play Fest

The Local Take talks to Toni Simmons Henson, founder and director of Atlanta Black Theatre Festival  to share information about this year's event. Toni explains that each year they aim to make it bigger and better and they succeeded again for 2017.

This year the festival incorporates the only African American play festival for kids - the ABTF Children's Play Festival taking place on September 30th at the West End Performing Arts Center. This event just for children will feature plays and creative workshops.

The main event begins on October 4th at the Porter Sanford Performing Arts Center and runs through October 7th.  Toni explains that you might want to pick a day as opposed to performances.  She mentions the Artist's Town Hall taking place on October 5th where artist will come together to discuss the current state of our nation.  From reading to full blown musicals there is something for everyone.

Toni mentions the revival of The Soldier's Play starring T. C. Carson and a musical that will stay with you long after the festival ends. Named Best Fall Festival by the Atlanta Journal and Constitution in 2016 this is a not to be missed event with more locals taking part than ever before.
