Diana Ross to receive AMA Lifetime Achievement Award + Nominees

CONGRATS to music diva—DIANA ROSS! The Motown legend and Grammy-award winning singer, actress, fashion icon and philanthropist will receive this year’s coveted “American Music Award for Lifetime Achievement.”

Miss Ross will be recognized for her five-decades of outstanding artistic contributions to the entertainment industry and popular culture.  She attended the very first show in 1974 and has since gone on to win seven awards of her own and even served as host in 1986 and 1987.

“I have endless memories of all the years that I have appeared on the American Music Awards,” says Ms. Ross. “It started with Dick Clark and The Caravan of Stars and American Bandstand.  It was Dick Clark who said, ‘Music is the soundtrack of our lives.’ So true. I am so excited to be receiving this honorable award.”

The “American Music Award for Lifetime Achievement,” formerly the “American Music Award of Merit”, is only given to artists who have made truly exceptional contributions to the music industry.

The honor comes on the heels of the 45th anniversary of Miss Ross’ landmark film, “Lady Sings the Blues,” where she earned an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of jazz singer Billie Holiday. I would imagine that her rare performance during the live broadcast will include a few selections from that film. Let’s hope so!

The “American Music Awards” air on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. E.T. on ABC.
