An Evening Of Song @ MLK Chapel WCLK Digs Sacred Music

Lovers of sacred music and choral music are in for a treat on Sunday April 27 at 7pm at the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel on the campus of Morehouse College.  An Evening of Song is the title of a program that will feature the soaring voices of the Wendell P. Whalum Community Chorus, the combined Spelman and Morehouse College Glee Clubs, the Clark Atlanta University Philharmonic Society, and the Sister Thea Bowman Scholars from the Lyke House, the Catholic Center for the AUC.

The event is open to the public.

Lyke House Composer and Artist In Residence Stephen Lee and Morehouse Glee Club Director David Morrow joined Rob Maynard for a conversation about these singers and the importance of an earlier generation of AUC singers and directors such as Wendell P. Whalum and Thea Bowman.

WCLK listeners may remember Stephen Lee's Stand By Me collection of traditional spirituals re-imagined and re-arranged in the aftermath of the devastating Gulf hurricanes of last decade.  More about that piece here.

If you would like more information about the Evening of Song Sunday evening in the King Chapel, contact Catherine Marks at 404-349-2070 or Sandra Reese 755-2646.
