Jazz In The New Millennium Premieres On WCLK Featuring Jason Moran

A new program for mainstream jazz enthusiasts premieres on WCLK Sunday at 3pm following Debb Moore's Sunday Jazz Suite.  Jazz In the New Millennium features the artists who are keeping the music alive and well in the 21st Century, from living legends Wayne Shorter and Charles Lloyd, prime-time players Branford Marsalis and Jason Moran and rising stars Robert Glasper and Esperanza Spalding. Each one-hour program focuses on an individual artist, presenting their music in a historical context that is both musically enriching and educational. This Sunday's debut features the music of keyboardist Jason Moran.

Host Rick Mitchell is a longtime music journalist and radio programmer living in Houston, Texas. He is the author of the book Jazz In the New Millennium: Live and Well, published in 2014 in partnership with Da Camera of Houston. The program is produced at Houston's Lamar High School, with engineers Andre Cafcalas and Mark Garza.

Programming note for the Roots of Smooth with Bobby Jackson and Tavis Smiley: This legacy program featuring the late Bobby Jackson moves from 3pm Sundays to 9am Saturdays, taking the place of the second hour of the Tavis Smiley Radio Show from Public Radio International. Smiley himself chose to move from a two hour to a one hour weekly program.
