Joe Gransden--

At thirty-eight years old, Joe Gransden has already performed worldwide and released eight CDs under his own name. Renowned first for the hard-bop approach of his trumpet, Gransden’s singing voice has been compared to those of Chet Baker and Frank Sinatra. Joe hails from just north of Manhattan, New York, and comes from a family of musicians.

As a teenager, Joe toured as a sideman with the big bands of both Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller. Over the years, he has also played as an American Federation of Musicians-contracted sideman to such greats as Barry White, The Moody Blues, Kenny Rogers, The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, and The Whispers. Upon moving to New York City he performed with numerous groups, including sub work with Toshiko Akiyoshi and Chico O’Farrill at the famous Birdland Jazz Club, and formed his own group, which included the venerable guitarist Joe Cohn and ex-Betty Carter bassist Matt Hughes. The Joe Gransden Trio currently has a growing legion of fans in New York, and recently in Atlanta, where Joe’s trio plays steadily five to six nights a week in as many venues.  More about Joe can be found here.

Atlanta's High Museum is currently featuring the exhibit Frieda & Diego: Passion, Politics, and Painting Through May 12.  You can find out more about The High Museum and the current featured exhibit by clicking here.
