Konichiwa! Aiyana Mathews Talks About All Things Japan! JapanFest and the JET Program

Kiplyn Primus speaks with Aiyana Mathews about all things Japanese for The Local Take on WCLK

The Local Take speaks with Aiyana Mathews about all things Japan including JapanFest and the JET Program. JapanFest takes place Saturday, Oct. 19 and Sunday Oct. 20 and is the largest Japanese gathering in the Southeast. Over 30,000 people are expected to partake in the activities that include live performances and authentic Japanese food. Interactive activities include kites, spinning tops, kimona, dancers, drummers and more.  Every martial art of Japan will be displayed from akido to sumo.  An anime village is being sponsored by MoMoCon. Over 400 Japanese companies have bases in Georgia manufacturing everything from technology to tractors.

Aiyana explains her affiliation for all things Japanese began with her love of the language.  As a participant in the JET Program, Aiyana lived and worked in a small town of 7000 people none of whom spoke English.  After several years, she is now fluent in Japanese and her company Gardner-Mathews Travel Concierge specializes in travel to festivals allowing visitors to experience the culture of a country in a personal fashion.
