Saturday morning at 7am on The Local Take On WCLK, the Atlanta Fulton Public Library System stopped by to let the community know about National Library Sign up Month.
I speak with Public Relations and Marketing Manager Claudia Strange about National Library Sign Up Month. She shares with listeners what they will need to receive a library card and all of the things beyond books that you can do with a the card. From renting movies to receiving parking passes for Georgia State Parks or family tickets to Zoo Atlanta all you need is an Atlanta Fulton Public Library card.
This month the library joined forces with Sarah Jessica Parker to launch a virtual book club. I speak with librarian Kimberly Snoddy-George about this new club and how it came about. She shares with us that the first book club book is No One Is Coming to Save Us by Stephanie Powell Watts. This is Ms. Watts first novel and is set in North Carolina after the furniture industry shut down. Readers are invited to share virtually their thoughts and librarians will moderate questions and engagement. Sign up here or on the AFPL Facebook page.
I speak back with Claudia about the library joining Georgia Gives Day which allows residents to donate directly to the library's foundation. The foundation provides funding directly to branches allowing them to create and expand programming for their community. Claudia also provides an update on the ongoing library renovations. The renovations are occurring at each branch based on input from the community. She mentions that the next round of community meeting is taking place for several branches.
I ask Claudia to tell us about the worst thing that can happen at the library when you lose your library book she shares a great solution!
