March 26: Eddie Palmieri On Jazz Tones, Plays Rialto Center April 1

Sunday, March 26 on Jazz Tones on Jazz 91.9 WCLK between 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., I will interview Eddie Palmieri.   He is a composer and arranger of Salsa and Latin Jazz. His playing skillfully fuses the rhythm of his Puerto Rican heritage with the complexity of Jazz influences: Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner as well as his older brother, Charlie Palmieri.Palmieri was born in  Spanish Harlem and raised in the Bronx.  You can read about his honored career by visiting Palmieri Music here.

The Library of Congress added Palmieri's compostion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4LlF0RH63Y" target="_blank">Azucar Pa Ti  to the National Recording Registry because that recording changed the format of the recording industry, breaking the three-and-a-half minute barrier.  When he celebrated 75 years in the music industry five years ago, Eddie wrote the original score for a documentary co-directed by Bobbito Garcia called  Doin' It In the Park. This documentary explored the cultural influence of playground basketball on sports and music. The songs featured in the film will be part of Palmieri's next album Sabiduria.  Eddie Palmieri will be appearing at The Rialto Center for the Performing Arts at Georgia State University on  Saturday, April 1.  Ticket information for that performance is available here.
