NEW MUSIC: Nihil Novi By Marcus Strickland

Miami-born, NYC based 37 year old Tenor Saxophonist, Marcus Strickland creates dense soundscapes on his debut recording for Blue Note/Revive, entitled Nihil Novi, which is Latin for nothing new. The literal title belies the music, which is memorizing at times, reflecting modern sampling and sensibilities wrapped around straight-ahead horn playing. Strickland's Twi-Life includes his Producer and Collaborator, Bassist Me'Shell Ndege Ochello.   Robert Glasper and Drummer, Chris Dave join Strickland's current band that include Trumpeter Keyon Harrold, Bassist Kyle Miles, Drummer Charles Haynes, Organist Mitch Henry and Keyboardist Masayuki Hirano. You can hear cuts from Nihil Novi on  Jazz 91.9 WCLK at various times including Mondays through Fridays from 10:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. on Serenade To The City.
