February 27: Dr. Judi Talks With Freed Alabama Inmate

Democracy Now
l-r Attorney Bryan Stevenson and Anthony Ray Hinton upon Hinton's release from death row April 3, 2015

Join Social Worker Dr. Judi Crocker-Billingsley on Saturday morning, February 27 at 7:30  for a new program on  Jazz 91.9 WCLK. Dr. Judi, The People’s Advocate will investigate important issues in the community at the intersection of The System and Real Life.   This Saturday, February 17,  Dr. Judi talks with Anthony Ray Hinton, a man who spent  30 years on Alabama’s Death Row for a crime he did not commit. Hinton is the 152th person exonerated from Death Row since 1983. He was freed after three decades thanks to the efforts of Attorney Bryan Stevenson and the Equal Justice Initiative.   The Equal Justice Initiative is a Montgomery, Alabama organization that attempts to bring resources to bear for those wrongly convicted of crimes.   We're talking about innocent people, wrongly convicted.

Judi Crocker Billingsley is a social worker, author, researcher, consultant to the Congressional Institute of Social Work and Policy and, an educator at Clark Atlanta University and Troy University.

More information about the Equal Justice Initiative can be found here.

The next edition of Dr. Judi, The People's Advocate, airs Saturday, March 26 on Jazz 91.9 WCLK.
