Nnenna Freelon Is Lena Horne @ Ferst Center, Talks With Jay Edwards On Jazz Tones

Captivating jazz vocalist and six-time Grammy nominee Nnenna Freelon celebrates Lena Horne in an evening of song and story set against the backdrop of Lena Horne’s 92-year life and legacy. The recipient of numerous international honors, Freelon has earned a global fan base for her performances and recordings.  Freelon is at the Ferst Center at Georgia Tech Saturday night, February 23 at 8pm.

In advance of her performance, Freelon chatted with Jay Edwards, host of Jazz Tones, Saturdays from 2p-6p on WCLK.  In their interview Freelon reveals that Lena Horne has been her role model since childhood, as Horne and Freelon's mother shared the same values.

The songs that she will be singing at Saturday's Performance at The Ferst Center will reflect her deep abiding respect for Lena as a lyricist and civil rights advocate.

One example among many of different times that Freelon shares with Edwards(and will share during the performance) is that Lena was released from the Bob Hope overseas military tour because she took a photograph with a black soldier instead of a white soldier.  This show will reflect many great songs Lena Horne made her own such as  Stormy Weather.  Jay Edwards rates this show a must see for jazz fans.
