Jay Hoggard

Join me Sunday, October 3 at 3:00 p.m. for Jazz Tones.   I'll catch up with Vibrophonist and Composer, Jay Hoggard.   Hoggard is  also an alumnus and professor of music at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.   Born in Washington, DC and raised in  Mt. Vernon, Jay was taught piano by his mother and played saxophone and vibes as a teenager.   His performance repertoire  represents the three B's in Jazz  tradition Blues, Bop and Ballads.    He has recorded 22 releases and over 50 as a collaborator.

Hoggard's most recent release Harlem Hieroglyphs features Gary Bartz on saxophone; James Wiedman on piano and organ; Nat Adderly Jr., piano and organ;  Beldon Bulloch on bass; and, Yoron Israel drums.  This release exemplifies the hieroglyphics of Jazz and it's diverse facets within music. The arrangements are uniquely creative and, alive with nuance and symbolic meaning. Hoggard's fascination with Harlem's Golden Age of music is maintained and historically significant on Harlem Hieroglyphs. Tune into Jazz Tones, 3:00 p.m. Sunday October 2, when Jay Hoggard joins me on Jazz Tones to talk about his career and new release.

More info on Jay Hoggard is available here.
