Ron Aprea Checks In w/ Jay Edwards On Jazz Tones

Ron Aprea

This Saturday on Jazz Tones, 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.,  I will be interviewing Ron Aprea.   Aprea is an extremely accomplished saxophonist who has remained under the radar.   He grew up in Astoria, Queens playing  the clarinet.   He started playing the alto saxophone at 16 years old, taking lessons across the street from Radio City Music Hall.   Being a frequent visitor to Birdland Jazz Club, he was inspired by Big Band and Jazz legends including Count Basie and Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.   He befriended Frank Foster, who arranged and played for Count Basie.

Aprea's latest release is Ron Aprea Pays Tribute to John Lennon and the Beatles.   You can purchase it via the Amazon link below and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Jazz 91.9 WCLK.   Thank you.
