I can already tell by the YouTube comments that OWN’s new series Love Is ____. will be that show that everyone will be talking about this summer besides Queen Sugar and Insecure. If the acting and the obvious chemistry between the lead actors doesn’t pull you in, then maybe the soulful throwback sounds will. (Come through Nicci Gilbert and Brownstone).
Love Is ____. is a brand new dramedy inspired by the real-life relationship of TV and film duo—Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil. The show follows a modern-day power couple in Black Hollywood balancing successful careers and family during the 1990s, because that’s where the love story began.
It features Michelle Weaver and Will Catlett in the lead roles along with Tyrone Marshall Brown, Yootha Wong-Loi-Sing, Tosin Morohunfola and Idara Victor. Veteran actors Vanessa Bell Calloway, Tim Reid, Kadeem Hardison, Lana Young, Clark Peters and Loretta Devine round out the cast.
Love Is ____. premieres on June 19.
