White Rage In History And Today, On The Local Take With Kiplyn Primus

Saturday morning, October 1 during The Local Take on Jazz 91.9 WCLK,  I'll speak with Carol Anderson Ph.D., author of the new book White Rage .  Dr. Anderson is a Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor of African American Studies at Emory University.

Ms. Anderson explains to us that she wrote an Op-Ed for the Washington Post after the Michael Brown killing in Ferguson, MO. Her background in history uniquely qualified her to look at Ferguson through that lens.

She posits that  "Since 1865 and the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment, every time African Americans have made advances towards full participation in our democracy, white reaction has fueled a deliberate and relentless rollback of their gains."  The election of Barack Obama twice in 2008 and 2012 has resulted in a backlash against African Americans in the United States.

We discuss her position and solutions to history repeating itself over and over in our country;  and, what we can do when we recognize this phenomenon.
