Women Flying High is a civic organization paying tribute to the lasting memory and impact of the March On Washington they are presenting a series of vignettes about it between now and the 50th Anniversary on August 28. You can hear these vignettes on WCLK at various times throughout the day and we will post them online here as well.
You will hear:
Kasim Reed interview Ambassador Andrew Young
Alexis Scott interview C. T. Vivian
Shirley Franklin interview Joseph and Evelyn Lowery
Raphael Warnock interview John Lewis
Monica Pearson interview Xernona Clayton
These lions and lionesses of The Movement will take you behind the scenes at one of America's greatest moments.
Their stories are rich with subtext about the many efforts that led up to that march, their keen understanding of why the plight of African-Americans and minorities had to be taken to the doorstep of the Capital, what it was like to look out at 250,000 people of all races who had come together as one -- and how it changed the country forever.
These compelling voice clips were captured in recent interviews conducted by Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, M. Alexis Scott publisher of the Atlanta Daily World, Raphael G. Warnock Senior Pastor at Atlanta's Ebenezer Baptist Church, and Monica-Pearson, iconic Atlanta TV Anchor.
Remember the Movement. Their fight is still our fight today. We hope our listeners and members gain inspiration and motivation when you hear them.
