Jazz vocalist of note Laura Coyle and her Quintet provide the musical soundtrack to Friday Jazz At The High Museum this week.  WCLK's Jamal Ahmad will be your emcee at this event, and he sat down to chat with Coyle in advance of her performance.  Friday Jazz this week will also serve as the kickoff of WCLK's 40th Anniversary Celebration.  We hope to see you there.

"...Had a wonderful time hosting the Jazz Roots educational series this morning at North Atlanta High School w/ legendary South African singer/guitarist, Jonathan Butler! It was so inspiring to see him jam with a quartet that was comprised of students! They jammed Charlie Parker's "Now is the time" and Stanley Turrentine's "Sugar" and even played a traditional South African tune with him! Don't count the kids out good people! There is still hope!"

True Colors Theatre Company's Shakin' The Rafters Drops By WCLK

Bell's Shakin' The Rafters, and why Atlantans who care about theatre, gospel music, and the African American Experience owe it to themselves come out to the 14th Street Playhouse to see this play before its run concludes August 4.

Sax man Kim Waters dropped by The S.O.U.L. of Jazz with Jamal Ahmad to talk about his music and his current tour, which brings him to Atlanta and the Variety Playhouse Saturday night for the Winds & Strings Show featuring Karen Briggs and Jon Parks.

Veteran saxophonist Kim Waters isn’t known among fans and peers as “the King of Smooth Urban Jazz” for nothing. Over the course of 17 albums, including over a decade’s worth with Shanachie, he’s been consistent and impeccable in delivering an infectious mix of romantic ballads and funky, thumping dance tunes.

Jamal Ahmad is having a soulful Tuesday, not the least of which was a visit from Swing Out Sister Chanteuse Corinne Drewery.  She stopped by The Soul of Jazz in advance of tonight's performance at The Variety Playhouse to talk about Swing Out Sister's music past, present and future.  She and Jamal talked about everything from the group's inter-generational fan base to the Icelandic volcano eruption that canceled their last scheduled Atlanta Appearance.
