The 6th Annual Bessie Smith Heritage Festival goes down this weekend in the heart of Chattanooga, and features two days of Blues, Jazz, Neo Soul and R&B. ATL's own (and friend of WCLK) Joey Sommerville will be blowing his horn there, too. Joey stopped by to talk a little with Mark Angel about this weekend's festival, just a hop, skip and jump up I-75 to celebrate the life of American Blues original Bessie Smith, a native of Chattanooga.
Jazz 91.9 WCLKin partnership with the International Television Services will host the second in a series of beta field testings of OVEE, a new social screening platform for watching television starting April 1. OVEE is a digital engagement platform which allows Jazz 91.9 to better serve communities by administering live, online screenings of most public broadcasting programs while interacting with participants in real time.
J-Fly and Joey Sommerville are two key members of the Atlanta Jazz Family, and they always take time to drop by WCLK when they are playing in town. Today they joined Jamal Ahmad during The S.O.U.L. Of Jazz, heard weekdays 2p-6p on The Jazz of The City.
Friday night February 1 will find J-Fly & The Fly Trap accompanied by Joey Sommerville and special guest Donnie at Acoustix, on Marietta Street. They caught up with Jamal on a stormy hump-day afternoon, telling tales of musical derring-do from around the world and right here at home.
