Oct 10, 2017

There's new music from Boney James with his latest Concord release Honestly. The record features nine songs co-written by Boney and vocal guests including Atlanta's own Avery Sunshine and Eric Roberson.  You can hear cuts including Tick Tock on Jazz 91.9 WCLK at various times throughout the day, including on Serenade To The City, Monday through Friday from  10:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m.

Mindi Abair is a superb Contemporary Jazz saxophonist and vocalist, with the Grammy nominations and touring chops to back it up.   She's a friend of Jazz 91.9 WCLK and always drops by WCLK when she is in Atlanta to perform.

Charles Lloyd is one of Modern Jazz's great surviving sax legends, along with Sonny Rollins, Pharoah Sanders and Wayne Shorter. Lloyd's New Quartet includes Jason Moran on keys, Rueben Rogers on bass, and Eric Harland on drums. Lloyds recent release on Blue Note, Passin' Thru, features six original Lloyd compositions going back to 1963. Fans of Straight Ahead Jazz on WCLK can hear cuts from Passin' Thru Monday-Friday overnights 10pm-2am on Serenade To The City, and also on Jazz Tones with Jay Edwards, Sunday afternoons 3pm-7pm.

New Music: Herb Alpert Music Volume 1

Aug 27, 2017

Herb Alpert has new music out on his own label, the third in a series of self produced records in recent years on which he plays and occasionally sings his favorite pieces from the Great American Songbook. Alpert played most of these sessions at his own studio with Producer and Keyboardist Jochem van der Saag and a basic Jazz acoustic trio that includes Brian Bromberg on bass on some cuts.  On Music Volume 1 there is no mistaking the timbre and tone of Alpert's horn, even as he celebrates his 83rd year. You can hear cuts from Music Volume 1 at various times during the day on Jazz 91.9 WCLK in particular during Serenade To The City, Monday through Friday from 10:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m.
