African American Women

Saturday, March 24 on The Local Take on Jazz 91.9 WCLK, I talk about Women's History Month with Attorney Bettieann Hart, a member of the Georgia Coalition of Black Women.  This year the coalition will honor one of their own, Dr. Rita Jackson Samuels.  Ms. Hart explains that while Dr. Samuels got her start in the civil rights arena working for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., she went on to become the first African American woman to serve on the personal staff for a Governor of the State of Georgia.

Power Rising Comes to Atlanta - Star Jones a Founder

Feb 17, 2018

On the February 17 edition of  The Local Take I speak with former prosecutor and member of television's The View Star Jones.  Jones and I discuss the 2018 Power Rising Conference taking place in Atlanta.   Jones is President and a member of the Board of Directors of National Association of Professional Women and Professional Diversity Network.

As one of the founders she shares with us information about the conference and how it came to be from a Congressional Black Caucus Women's meeting.

On the December 2 edition of The Local Take on  Jazz 91.9 WCLK we talked about the Maternal mortality rate, which is rising in the USA.   I first became aware of this research from an article in the Los Angeles Times which indicated that the rates of death are rising most in the African-American community. Then I saw a report from the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) on the same subject. I reached out to Dr. Karla Booker an obstetrician and gynecolgist, who serves on Georgia’s Maternal Mortality Review Committee.
