The National Black Arts Festival continues its 2015 program with a Spotlight Series Performance from Step Afrika! on Saturday, August 29 at 6 p.m. at Atlanta's Center Stage.  Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Step Afrika!, a Washington DC-based company, has paved the way as the first professional company in the world dedicated to the African-derived tradition of stepping, popularized in films like “Drumline” (2002) and “Stomp the Yard” (2007).

Atlanta based jazz singer Tony Hightower stopped by Jazz 91.9 WCLK studios this week to chat with Midday Jazz announcer RivaBlue. During the interview, Hightower dished about the re-release of his new album, The New Standard Deluxe and so much more. Soul Train Music Award winner and R&B Soul-Jazz vocalist, Maysa Leak had fans “spellbound and speechless” Wednesday night during the Atlanta premiere party for her new CD, Back2Love.  The event took place at the Museum Bar as part of a new “Wednesday Night Live Series” and featured a live performance by Maysa and Q&A session with Jazz 91.9 WCLK’s Jamal Ahmad.

Paramount Pictures has released a new featurette about the upcoming Atlanta crime drama, Captive, starring David Oyelowo and Kate Mara. The film is based on the book, Unlikely Angel: The Untold Story of the Atlanta Hostage Hero.

R&B/soul vocalist, Anthony David is making his theatrical debut this summer in Kevin Ramsey’s Chasin’ dem Blues: The Untold Story of Paramount Records.  Best known for his 2008 song “Words”, a duet with contemporary R&B singer India.Arie, David will play the role of bluesman, Blue. This is David’s first time working with Kenny Leon’s True Color’s Theatre Company.

Jill Scott announces 25-City Summer Tour

Grammy winning-singer and noted actress, Jill Scott aka "Jilly from Philly" announced Monday a new summer tour. The 25 -date tour kicks off July 13 in Pittsburgh, PA with stops in Brooklyn, Los Angeles, Houston and Atlanta's Chastain Park on August 2.

The Power to Inspire 2015 Human Rights Summit takes place on Tuesday, May 5 through Wednesday, May 6 at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta, GA. The summit’s goal is to shine a light on current pressing human rights issues and solutions from those who are working for their eradication.  Panel discussions include environmental justice, ending human trafficking and lessons from the Atlanta Student Movement.

Israeli-Ethiopian singer Ester Rada brings her 3-piece band to Atlanta's Breman Museum Thursday, May 7 for an infectious blend of Ethio-jazz, funk and soul. The show is from 7:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.  Rada has opened for Alicia Keys and headlined in concert halls around the world.  Rada’s self-titled debut album has been influenced by legends Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone and is described as a “cross-cultural sound that is a deep reflection of the Israeli-born Ethiopian’s heritage.”
