Check out images of Grammy winning singer-songwriter, actress and record producer MACY GRAY from Saturday night’s Atlanta Jazz Festival. The raspy-voiced vocalist, whose rose to fame in the early 2000s, performed about a 90-minute set of her hits before a packed crowd of hundreds on the western lawn of historic Piedmont Park. The show was emceed by WCLK 91.9’s  “Morning Jazz” radio personality and author—Morris Baxter.

 

 

Join us for CAU NOW-Lifting Every Voice, Saturday morning at 7am on WCLK as we highlight the Fifth Annual Atlanta Studies Symposium, a collaboration between the Clark Atlanta University Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice and the James Weldon Johnson Institute at Emory University. A roundtable discussion will take place at 12noon on Wednesday, April 26 in the Exhibition Hall at the AUC Robert W. Woodruff Library. Panelists will include Clark Atlanta University's Dr. Barbara Harris Combs, Samuel Livingston of Morehouse College, Calinda Lee of the Atlanta History Center, Deirdre Oakley and Dr. Maurice Hobson of Georgia State University and Charles Stephens of the Counter Narrative Project along with Dr. Kali-Ahset Amen of Emory University serving as our moderator.

All eyes were on Atlanta this week for the advanced screening of “The Fate of the Furious.” The red carpet premiere took place at Midtown Atlanta’s SCAD Show and was hosted by the film’s star Christopher “Ludacris” Bridges. He was also joined by his co-star Tyrese as well as close industry friends like “Being Mary Jane” actress Gabrielle Union and “Hit a Lick” actor Lance Gross.

 

Join me Saturday, March 11 at 7:00 a.m. on The Local Take on WCLK as I talk with Tommy Dortch, Vice Chair of Public Policy for the Atlanta Business League.  He joins us to talk about the ABL's upcoming 10th Annual Congress on the State of Black Business, taking place Tuesday, March 14 from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Morehouse College Shirley A. Massey Executive Conference Center.  This annual event shows African American entrepreneurs how to find governmental funding to grow their businesses.  Dortch shares that over $10 billion in government spending will take place in metro-Atlanta in 2017.  From expansion of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to MARTA , Tommy Dortch explains that small and medium size business should "show-up in order to show-out".
