Thanks to our members and listeners who donated to Jazz 91.9 WCLK for a fabulous evening of Jazz at the Movies on Friday May 12, 7:00 p.m. at Landmark Midtown Theatre.  Response was overwhelming and this event has been sold out! Chasing Trade:  The John Coltrane Documentary accounts the life and work of legendary Jazz musician, John Coltrane.  The film includes commentary from:   Denzel Washington, Carlos Santana, Common, Cornell West, Bill Clinton and others.

Chick Corea via Concord Music, has released a multidisc, multimedia collection documenting his 2011 series of 70th Birthday celebration performances at the famed Blue Note.  Corea is featured in 10 different bands featuring some 30 different musicians, including:   Herbie Hancock, Bobbie McFerrin, Gary Burton, Wynton Marsalis, John McLaughlin, Stanley Clarke, Chick Corea Electrik Band and Return To Forever, among others. You can hear select cuts from The Musician at various times on  Jazz 91.9 WCLK and WCLK HD2 in particular during Serenade To The City, Monday through Friday from 10:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m.

Laila Biali is an award-winning Canadian pianist and vocalist who is earning accolades for her distinctive Jazz vocals.Laila's growing world recognition includes performances at the North Sea Jazz Festival, Tokyo's Cotton Club, as well as Carnegie Hall. She's recorded with Sting and toured with Chris Botti and Paula Cole. Her studio recording, Tracing Light, garnered a Juno nomination in 2011 for Best Vocal Jazz Album of the Year. Her follow-up album, Live in Concert, earned a four-star review and was named one of The Best Albums of 2013 by Downbeat magazine. Jazz 91.9 WCLK congratulates Gregory B. Levett, Sr. CEO of Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. for his selection to receive the prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the 2017 Atlanta Business League CEO Awards Luncheon on May 16. Gregory and his wife opened their first funeral chapel in 1980.  They operate four chapels and a crematory, currently. Mr. Levett is a very active leader in the community, serving:  as a member of the Saint Philip AME Church Steward Board; member and former president of the DeKalb Chapter of the 100 Black Men of America; and, chairman of the DeKalb Hospital Authority which oversees hospital bonds valued annually at 250 million dollars.
