Summer is historically a slow time for blood donations, and our blood centers have all hit a critical point for blood donors. Patients and hospitals are still dependent on blood donors to help save lives.  A pint of blood can assist 3 people with life saving materials.

This week on The Local Take I speak with Kevin James founder of the Atlanta Ice Cream Festival and Beverly Burks from the Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority

For the 7th year the Atlanta Ice Cream Festival will take place at Piedmont Park on Saturday, July 22 from 11am - 6pm. Kevin James explains why he decided to start the festival.  He also mentions that there will be lots of ice cream along with games, prizes and lots of family fun.  

The Local Take acknowledges July as National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month by speaking with Dr. Sheila Williams  about her life journey that led her to a career in the mental health.  

She shares that her mother was diagnosed with clinical depression. Growing up she understood that something was wrong with her mother, but she was repeatedly misdiagnosed.
