Rick Mitchell's Jazz In The New Millennium features Detroit's own jazz violinist Regina Carter, Sunday at 3pm on WLCK. She began playing jazz music as a student at the Boston Conservatory of Music, and her inimitable style has been in the spotlight since her 1987 debut with the all female jazz quintet Straight Ahead.

Regina Carter and her Quartet are appearing at acoustically perfect Spivey Hall at Clayton State University Saturday night at 8:15pm.  Carter, one of the pre-eminent jazz violinists of her era.

Her mixtures of classical jazz and international music stylings have attracted listeners and admirers the world over, she received a Macarthur Foundation Genius Grant in 2006.

Her quartet for the Atlanta performance includes Xavier Davis on piano, Jesse Murphy on bass, and Alvester Garnett on drums.
