North Carolina-born Lawson Rollins is a classical guitarist and world musician of renown, whose music has been featured on Jazz 91.9 WCLK for years.   He has a new greatest hits collection out on Infinita Records which is a great place to catch up to his 21st century take on classical guitar.   Airwaves features a new song World of Wonder that we are featuring currently on Jazz 91.9 WCLK throughout the day, including during Serenade To The City, Monday through Friday from 10:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. 

Jason Marsalis continues to push Jazz vibraphone forward on Melody Reimagined: Book 1 with his 21st Century Trad Band, just released on Basin Street Records. Jason is the youngest Marsalis, but he's also an NEA Jazz Master. For this record Marsalis is joined by the Trad Band--Austin Johnson on piano, Will Goble on bass, and Dave Potter on drums. He's also joined by guests including his Father Ellis and brother Delfeayo.

New Music: Origins By Dan Siegel

Dan Siegel is an artist who has moved between New Age and Contemporary Jazz since his first record Night Ride(Inner City) in 1979. Over the years he has worked as a session musician and composed music for TV and films. On his new record Origins, on DSM, he is joined by a stellar supporting cast including: Allen Hinds on electric guitar;  Ramon Stagnaro on acoustic guitar; Craig Fundyga on vibraphone; Rogerio Jardim on vocals; Brian Bromberg on acoustic bass; Vinnie Colaiuta on drums; and, Lenny Castro on percussion.

Alphonso Johnson has brought the fretless bass-line for generations of important groups and artists, including recording and touring with:  Weather Report, George Duke, Santana, Wayne Shorter, Pat Metheny, Sonny Rollins, Bob Weir and Phil Collins.   His new record out on Embamba is called Metaphors. Metaphors features the late great Ndugu Chancler, Patrice Rushen, Airto Moreira and others. His sound is unmistakable.

New Music: Laila Biali by Laila Biali

Vancouver-born  Pianist and Vocalist Laila Biali made her mark first as a child playing classical music and attending the Royal Conservatory.   As an adult she's played with Chris Botti, Suzanne Vega and Sting. She's toured the world playing at famous Jazz events and venues. Her new self released, eponymous Laila Biali includes originals, a Contemporary Jazz cover of David Bowie's Let's Dance, and a musical accompaniment to a 13th Century poem from Rumi.
