WCLK is Atlanta's exclusive home of The Tavis Smiley Show from Public Radio International, heard each Saturday morning from 8a-10a after the WCLK Public Affairs Block.
Tavis has a new book out, written in collaboration with David Ritz, called Death of A King: The Real Story of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Final Year. This is a work of history and fiction, in which Smiley takes the reader behind the scenes of the tumultuous final year of King's life, when many in the movement began to turn their backs on MLK's anti-war and anti-poverty efforts.
Tavis Smiley is everywhere you look or listen or read these days. You can hear his public radio show Saturdays from 8a-10a on WCLK. He's in Atlanta briefly for a book signing and appearance, and stopped by his Atlanta flagship station to chat with Jamal Ahmad about his new book Death of A King: The Real Story of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Final Year.
Saturday's Smart N Up Conference features a solution focussed discussion centered toward conquering social injustice within the community. It will be hosted by Tavis Smiley, but the focus is on bringing young people together to generate their own solutions for endemic poverty and inequality.
WCLK and all of our listeners and members fondly recall the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela. Smiley and West devoted their December 7 program to memories of Mandela, including conversations with Ron Dellums, Maxine Waters, and Afre Woodard.
