Alexandra Jackson Chats With Jamal Ahmad

Jazz Vocalist Alexandra Jackson stopped by The S.O.U.L. Of Jazz recently to catch up with Jamal Ahmad and talk about her her debut release From The Start.  Jackson is an accomplished vocalist with stops along with way including Jazz At Lincoln Center, the University of Miami Jazz Program, and a backup vocal stint with Gloria Estafan.

Jackson, who is the youngest daughter of Atlanta's late transformative Mayor Maynard Jackson and Valerie Jackson, arranged and produced the record herself, which is steeped in the Brazilian music that moves her the most.

She talks with Jamal about jazz, growing up with Maynard Jackson, and a family musical tradition that includes the Morehouse Glee Club and family musicians who came before like trailblazing African American Coloratura Soprano Mattiwilda Dobbs.
