Sandoval has won 10 Grammy Awards and has been nominated 19 times. He has received six Billboard Awards and an Emmy. He is a 2013 Presidential Medal of Freedom Recipient. Sandoval is one of the world's most acknowledged guardians of Jazz trumpet and flugelhorn, as well as a renowned classical artist, pianist and composer.
Sandoval recently penned a book, The Man Who Changed My Life, which chronicles his relationship with Dizzy Gillispie. Sandoval was a protege' of Gillispie. In addition, Sandoval wrote the entire underscore for the movie about his life For Love or Country. His latest recording is Live at Yoshi's.
