Saturday, July 15 at 7:00 a.m. on The Local Take, we'll catch up with The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System. Our featured guests are: Public Affairs Officer Rachel Daniels; Public Relations Manager Claudia Strange; and, Librarian Cheryl Small. Small is working on this year's Summer Reading Program.
Ms. Strange shares with us information about services and programs. One program is around the upcoming solar eclipse taking place on August 21 at approximately 1:00 p.m. The main branch of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library will host a viewing party on their fifth floor balcony. Check your local branch for the glasses needed to view the eclipse without damaging your eyes. Also check for their viewing parties and story times in support of the total eclipse.
She also shares information about their digital resources, available to everyone with a library card. This includes: Freegle Music, Hoopla and the Mango Languages learning resource.
Librarian Cheryl Small joins the conversation and speaks about the Summer Reading Program. All community members are urged to participate and, are encouraged to read 10 b00ks between now and August 1. Register here. She also shares that the Atlanta Fulton County Public Library System offers classes for kids of all ages related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). There are science literacy classes that can assist both parents and students.
The conversation closes out with information about the on-going renovation of library branches. The scheduled renovations will cause certain libraries to be closed while work is done. The community will have input into what their local branches need before the renovations take place. Ms. Strange assured our listeners that they will have access to a library branch that is just a few minutes away from their favorite branch during the renovation period.
