On the Saturday, May 14, 7:00 a.m. edition of The Local Take on Jazz 91.9 WCLK, I speak with Dean Dorcas Bowles from the Whitney M. Young, Jr. School of Social Work at Clark Atlanta University and CAU Alumna Atasha Murray. Murray received her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree under the leadership of Dr. Bowles. Bowles helped her obtain a scholarship when she was on the verge of having to quit her degree for financial reasons. Her desire to provide the same opportunities to current students caused Atasha Murray to reach out to Dean Bowles when she received a life changing opportunity. With a little help she has created an endowment for CAU students which will last beyond her lifetime.
Murray shares with us her desire to become an entrepreneur. She recounts her decision to buy the building where she built her practice that focused on children with special needs. Her company Life Evolutions Behavioral Health Care LLC, specializes in pediatric behavioral health services for the Atlanta area. She is passionate about assisting her clients and being an entrepreneur.
With the launch of Clark Atlanta University's Coca-Cola Company one million dollar alumni matching challenge grant, the Coca-Cola Foundation matched Murray’s $50,000 contribution dollar for dollar bringing in additional critical scholarships and resources to the university. Its first recipient will be rewarded $2,500 in May of 2016 during the School of Social Work Hooding Ceremony. The fund will provide scholarships to second year graduate social work students who desire to become business owners in the field.
