The Local Take: Department of Health and Human Services Update With Renee Ellmers

Renee Ellmers, Director Region 4 U.S. Dept Health and Human Services

This week on The Local Take on WCLK I spoke with former North Carolina Republican Congresswoman Renee Ellmers, who was appointed by the White House as Regional Director of Region 4 of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in May 2017.

In her role, Ms. Ellmers is responsible for the eight southeastern states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, as well as six federally recognized tribes; making Region 4 the largest of ten regions.

Ms. Ellmers speaks with me about some of the health challenges we face in our region including diabetes, obesity and hypertension.

We also speak about the future of healthcare including tele-health which is becoming more common place in providing support to patient who may be unable to visit a doctor's office.
