Jarrod Lawson Stops By The Soul of Jazz

Apr 23, 2016

Portland-based soul singer, Jarrod Lawson, has been making plenty of waves in the world of music since his eponymous 2014 debut. Since that release, the man has performed in over 17 countries and doesn't look like he's slowing down. He joined me during The S.O.U.L. Of Jazz on Friday, April 15 in advance of his Atlanta performance to catch up, and he even blessed the city with an exclusive intimate performance on the air, live from the WCLK studios. This is an interview that you most certainly want to hear asap!

On the eve of the limited release of the new Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead starring Don Cheadle, we've been checking out the incredible original motion picture soundtrack for the film. This is a project that excites us here at Jazz 91.9 WCLK because we stand on the frontline of supporting the legacy of Miles Davis every single day. One must remember that Miles Davis is probably one of the most important artists in popular music, largely due to his prescient nature.

WCLK Honors Wilton Felder Of The Crusaders

Sep 29, 2015
MCA Records

The world of Jazz lost another great artist with news that Wilton Felder passed over the weekend. He was 75 years old. WCLK  has been playing the music of the Crusaders for the past 41 years and we will continue to play the music of Joe Sample, Wayne Henderson, Wilton Felder and Stix Hooper. We will honor Wilton throughout the week. Please pay special attention the the mix of Jamal Ahmad on the Saturday Night Soul of Jazz 6pm to 9pm ET as he will honor Wilton Felder's massive works.

From Jamal Ahmad, who hosted this edition of WCLK's ongoing Jazz Education series. "...Had a wonderful time hosting the Jazz Roots educational series this morning at North Atlanta High School w/ legendary South African singer/guitarist, Jonathan Butler! It was so inspiring to see him jam with a quartet that was comprised of students! They jammed Charlie Parker's "Now is the time" and Stanley Turrentine's "Sugar" and even played a traditional South African tune with him! Don't count the kids out good people! There is still hope!"
